Japanese Hairstylist’s National Qualifying Examination

Shop Manager

All hairstylists and barbers must pass a national qualifying examination in Japan in order to be licensed. Without the license, hairstylists are not allowed to work at hair salons/barbers in Japan.

It usually takes between two to three years to complete the course, and costs about 700,000 – 2,000,000 yen (about Can$8,300 – 24,000) to study at a vocational/technical school and to pass the national qualifying examination.

Japanese hairstylists are highly-skilled, and Canadian customers who receive services at Japanese hair salons are often surprised at the high quality of skills of the hairstylists. This is because all hairstylists from Japan possess the license.

Experience our refined and high-quality skills at NEXUS. Our NEXUS Kitsilano staff all have recieved training and been licensed in Japan, and have previous experience working at one of our NEXUS Japan shops.

We are looking forward to having you at NEXUS Kitsilano!
